Yippee! It's Free! Open Source Tools for Training and Development

March 2, 2011 • 2:00 p.m. EST
Presenter: Stevie Rocco

Open-source tools and techniques for education and training are rapidly changing what it means to teach and to learn, blurring the lines between the teacher and the learner, the subject and the self, and formal and informal education. From a look at open-source content management systems, to educational uses of Twitter, to the power of targeted social networks, to the use of location-based services, you will discover the power of these emerging technologies and the communities that support them. In doing so, you will begin to utilize the bridging language sometimes necessary between the instructional designer and technical programmer/developer.

ISD for the Synchronous Environment

March 9, 2011 • 2:00 p.m. EST
Presenter: Nanette Miner

If you’re moving classroom content online, it’s a whole new world of instructional design! The synchronous environment requires a different perspective on common training activities such as discussion, flip charting, breakout groups, and lecture. In addition, the materials (facilitator guides, participant guides, and slides) that support the synchronous classroom are quite different. The speaker will explain the design approach of a synchronous class, the creation of synchronous-appropriate materials, and provide a variety of concrete examples.
